Abstract
Encounters with persons who have depressive disorders are prevalent in primary care. With all of the complexities of these encounters, these experiences can prove difficult for health care providers and patients alike. Patient-provider collaboration is an essential component to improved outcomes. This article presents a motivational interviewing, stepped-care approach that can be utilized to improve these encounters and decrease frustrations for all involved.
