Abstract

The role of oncogenes and anti-oncogenes in the development and progression of primary cutaneous basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma is reviewed. The carcinogenic impact of well recognized causes of human skin cancer such as exposure to chemicals, ionizing radiation, ultraviolet radiation, and oncogenic viruses can all be understood through the study of these genetic regulators of oncogenesis.
