Abstract
The os terminale-os odontoideum complex can be confusing because of the wide range of bony configurations encountered. However, once one understands the underlying embryology of the development of the dens, C1, and C2, it becomes easier to appreciate why, in some cases, the os terminale-os odontoideum ossicle appears rather bizarre. This presentation deals with material collected over 20 years and is accompanied by a review of the embryology of the upper cervical spine.
