Abstract

Psychiatric hospitals are facing a multitude of judicial decisions and statutory requirements that have a direct impact on clinical care and hospital management. This paper discusses the effects of one such decision on a large adolescent psychiatric service. The impact on clinical care, the response of the institution, and the eventual resolution of the situation are described. Several lessons were learned which may be applicable to a variety of psychiatric facilities and jurisdictions.
