Abstract
Two case reports of the autoamputated ovary are presented. Sixteen previous cases noted in the literature define this entity as a small, calcified, free-floating mass associated with an absent adnexus. A kidney, ureter and bladder (KUB) film usually demonstrates the calcification in an asymptomatic child. Ultrasound confirms the absence of one or both adnexa. This finding probably represents antenatal or subclinical ovarian torsion which leads to necrosis, calcification, and separation from its blood supply.
