Abstract
The fact that most of the important changes in nutritional status with age are not secondary to aging per se in no way detracts from their importance. This paper reviews three factors that can affect nutritional status in elderly status: ethanol intake, cognitive status, and institutionalization. The discussion focuses on the difficulties in obtaining reliable information on the interaction of nutritional status with these factors.
