Abstract

This case illustrates concomitant findings of Separation Anxiety Disorder and mitral valve prolapse in a 12-year-old girl. Adult studies have shown that up to 40% of agoraphobics with panic attacks may have an associated mitral valve prolapse. Indirect evidence for a relationship between Separation Anxiety Disorder and adult agoraphobia with panic attacks is discussed. Speculation is raised about the possibility of a common adrenergic dysfunction that may unite these three disorders.
