Abstract
Although a level I and II axillary lymph node dissection is considered the gold standard for evaluation of the axilla in breast cancer, sentinel lymph node biopsy is a technique that is rapidly replacing standard axillary lymph dissection for many surgeons. Because this technique is relatively new in the practice of surgery, definitive standards are lacking. However, many of the more common materials and techniques are reviewed.
