Abstract

During the last three decades, the development of microvascular surgical techniques has been considered the most significant contribution to reconstructive surgery. The success of microvascular surgery depends on many factors, such as careful selection and preparation of the recipient and donor's vessels, avoiding pedicle tension and kinking, and preventing hematoma around the vascular anastomosis. The purpose of this chapter is to review the essential principles of microvascular surgery.
