Abstract
Introduction: The immunological role of Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells (pDC) in bacterial infections such as Salmonella, is poorly known. Therefore, we analysed the effector function of pDC to present S. Typhimurium antigens to cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL). Objective: To analyze the cytotoxic T Lymphocytes Salmonella-specific response evoked by Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells (pDC). Material and methods: pDC CFSE-stained and pulsed withOmpC73 Salmonella Kb-restricted epitopes or S. Typhimurium infected, were used as target in cytotoxicity assays. Results: Specific lysis was statically significant in pDC+OmpC73 for all E:T ratios (p ≤ 0.05); for pDC+S. Typhimurium statistical significance was only observed at 1:100 ratio (p ≤ 0.05) using OmpC73. Conclusion: pDC can evoke cytotoxic T lymphocytes responses during S. Typhimurium infection.
