Ketoconazole therapy of experimentally induced sporotrichosis infections in cats. A preliminary study

Abstract

In a cat model that closely mimics naturally acquired Sporothrix schenckii infections in humans, the skin lesions of five of six experimentally infected animals rapidly cleared both clinically and culturally in response to ketoconazole therapy. Therapy for six weeks did not eradicate the organism from regional lymph nodes. Results of this preliminary study indicate that more prolonged trials of ketoconazole for Sporothrix infections appears to be warranted.
