Abstract

The coupling of octopole linear ion trap (LIT) with improve ion ejection properties to fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer (FT-ICR MS) was discussed. The LIT was used to accumulate continously generated electrospray ionization (ESI) ions prior to the ICR cell. The LIT transfer the accumulated ions into the ICR cell after each period of mass analysis. The improved signal to noise (S/N) (10x) obtained with an axial field in octopole LIT provides improved detection time, decreased ion accumulation time and complete ejection of all stored ions and a wide m/z range.
