Abstract
In summary, Hypertonie saline solutions exert advantageous effects on brain water and ICP if the BBB is intact. Clinical studies suggest that hypertonic solutions may be better than conventional, slightly hypotonie fluids in hypotensive, brain-injured patients during transport to the hospital. Further data are necessary to clarify the physiologic effects of hypertonic solutions and to determine their utility after patients are admitted.
