Abstract

To our knowledge, there have been 18 previously reported cases of hyperpyrexia due to intraventricular hemorrhage in newborns, usually as a terminal event. Three more cases are reported here. In these three cases hyperpyrexia not only was an early finding, but actually was the presenting sign in two infants. Intraventricular hemorrhage should be included in the differential diagnosis of fever in the newborn. Prognosis in these neonates perhaps is poor, but early diagnosis may enable some to survive intact.
