Abstract
Two cases of gastric varices presenting as pseudotumors of the cardia are reported. The diagnosis should be entertained when a submucosal nodular "mass" is encountered in the cardia. Suspicion rises in the presence of a history of hepatic or extrahepatic disease leading to portal or splenic vein obstruction. A history of hematemesis may serve to confirm the diagnosis and has occurred with remarkable frequency in many of the reported cases. The presence of esophageal varices and splenomegaly is of further aid in making the diagnosis. At this point if the diagnosis is still in doubt, a more definite study can be obtained with splenoportography.
