Abstract
Many studies have demonstrated that gap junctions are found between cells that are in electrical continuity, and such junctions are usually not reported between contiguous cells that are electrically discontinuous. The present study adds one more case to the list of contiguous cells that are in electrical continuity and united by junctions with a 20Å intracellular gap. The fact that the leech glial cells are large and can be studied with microelectrodes as well as morphologically makes these cells favorable for studies on the molecular configuration of the membranes which allows ions and other compounds to pass easily from cell to cell.
