N2 - Interferons (IFNs) and interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) are the major players in the host innate immunity against viral infection. In a recent Nature paper, Xu et al. identified phospholipid scramblase 1 (PLSCR1) as a novel ISG that restricts severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection by blocking virus-cell fusion.
