Abstract

A Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) mass spectrometer was described. It was constructed and installed at a free electron laser (FEL) facility. The FTICR-FEL coupling permits infrared spectra of gaseous ions to be obtained over a wide range of infrared spectrum. The ability to obtain infrared spectra of gaseous ions is important for distinguishing isomeric ions and for identifying new ionic species.
