Abstract

The comparative analysis of protein in schizophrenia using two-dimensional gel-electrophoresis in combination with mass spectrometry (MS) was discussed. The changes in the glutamate transmission played an important role in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. The protein expressions were compared in thalamus in eight MK-801 treated rats and eight controls. Results show that MK-801 treatment of rats represents a model useful in search for antipsychotic compounds which diminishes the development of biochemical disturbances in schizophrenia.
