Abstract
Phermones from the axial breeding glands of African clawed frog hymenochirus was chemically identified and evaluated using electrospray mass spectrometry. Ten selected male frogs were injected with Gonadotropin Releasing hormone (GnRH) twelve hours prior to the experiment. The male and female gland secretions were analyzed by a Schimadzu high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a water-acetonitrile-formic acid gradient system. It was found that the female frogs were more attracted to water housing males than to water housing females and to water containing homogenized breeding glands than to water housing breeding gland-ablated males.
