Cannabidiol for Treatment of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Disorders

Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

Parents and patients have inquired about the safety and efficacy of can-nabidiol (CBD) in treating child and adolescent mental health conditions. This review examines the current lit-erature regarding CBD containing less than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in treatment of childhood psychiatric disorders for youth 20 years and younger. Although there are several areas of growing interest for potential use of CBD, such as social anxiety disorder and autism spectrum disorder, the evidence base remains limited. Large-scale controlled trials are need-ed to determine the efficacy of CBD for treatment of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders.
