Abstract

Breast conservation therapy is the complete removal of the breast cancer with a margin of normal tissue surrounding the tumor. This is usually followed by radiation therapy. The primary goals of breast conservation therapy are to provide a survival equivalent to mastectomy, an acceptable rate of local recurrence, and a cosmetic outcome that is acceptable to the patient.
