Bioconcentration of Cadmium, Manganese and Lead in some common species of wild birds from Lucknow City

Abstract

Cadmium (Dd), Manganese (Mn) and Lead (Pb) were estimated in the body tissues of pigeon (Columba livia), cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis), crow (Corvus splendens) and kite (Milvus migrams) in comparison with farm bred chickens to indicate the magnitude of heavy metals present in the immediate human environment. The concentrations of Cd and Mn were higher in liver, muscle and brain of all species of birds as compared to other organs. Remarkably high concentrations of Cd (0.2 ppm) were detected in kite liver, Mn (2.72 ppm) in pigeon kidney and Pb (4.75 ppm) in the brain of crow.
