Abstract
The interferon response after pretreatment of the adult mouse with heparin, dimethylbenzanthracene, actinomycin, antilymphocyte serum antimacrophage serum, phytohemagglutinin, or after splenectomy, was investigated. After the mice were pretreated, interferon response was induced by intravenous injection of Newcastle disease virus; serum interferon was then quantitated. None of the treatments completely suppressed interferon production. These findings support the hypothesis that interferon is synthesized in vivo at several sites and by many cell types.
