Abstract

Adult respiratory distress syndrome remains highly lethal. Both the cause and management of this syndrome in the pregnant woman are similar to that of her nonpregnant counterpart. Of paramount importance in achieving maternal survival is early identification and swift eradication of the precipitant of the lung injury. Thereafter the management remains essentially one of support, with attention to avoiding multiple organ system failures.
